This workshop runs in person at Bristol, Cheltenham, Swindon and Thornbury. Don't see the venue or date you want? Drop us a message and we'll let you know what's next.

Is this for you?

This workshop is for small business owners and marketers who've been doing social media for a while and are feeling the strain of running it without a proper strategy. You post when you remember to. You're on a couple of platforms because someone said you should be. Your engagement is OK some weeks, terrible others, and you can't tell why. You suspect the problem isn't any single piece. It's that nothing connects to anything else. You want to walk out with a working system, not a longer to-do list.

Half-day workshops run in person only at our four West of England venues. Tea and coffee provided. Capped at small groups so the trainer can work with everyone in the room.

What we'll cover

Four hours covering social media as one connected system, from the strategic question of why you're doing it through to the practical question of what to do on Monday morning:

  • Why most small business social media efforts fail, and the missing connection between the pieces that's almost always the cause
  • Strategy first: who you're trying to reach, why they should care, and what you're actually trying to achieve (revenue, recruitment, credibility, community all need different approaches)
  • Platform choice: which platforms genuinely work for your audience and which you can stop pretending to use
  • Content that earns its keep: the formats that actually generate engagement and enquiries, not just likes from people who already know you
  • The active side most workshops skip: engagement, comments and direct conversation as a core part of the work, not an afterthought
  • Measurement that actually tells you something: the small handful of numbers that matter, and the dashboards designed to look impressive but tell you nothing
  • A working session: building an integrated 12-week plan for your own business, with the trainer's input

What you'll walk away with

By the end of the four hours, you'll have:

  • A clear social media strategy for your business, drafted in the room, focused on what you're actually trying to achieve
  • A short, honest list of which platforms to commit to and which to drop
  • A 12-week content plan, mapped to your strategy
  • A simple weekly rhythm covering posting, engagement and outreach, sustainable without it taking over your day
  • A short list of metrics that genuinely matter for your business, and a 15-minute weekly review process to track them
  • Course notes you'll actually refer back to
  • A certificate of completion

About the trainer

Nick is the founder of CoMagnify. He's been creating content for brands since before social media took off. He spearheaded the Becks Offbeat campaign in 2008, and in the 18 years since has worked closely with international brands including Virgin, SharkNinja and Overboard. He's also a working photographer with IPA, TIFA and BPA awards to his name, and has guided small businesses to significant growth alongside the brand work. His background spans broadcast and documentary production at the BBC, National Geographic and Discovery, a range of disciplines that informs how he thinks about narrative, audience and storytelling.

Nick has been running social media for businesses since social media was something businesses had to be talked into. He's seen the same pattern repeatedly: small businesses trying hard, with decent content, on the right platforms, getting nowhere because nothing connects. This workshop is the integrated system he uses across his own businesses and his clients'.

Common questions

How does this differ from the 90-minute workshops?

The 90-minute workshops are deep dives on specific disciplines: Brand Narratives, LinkedIn, Facebook, Practical AI, Social Media Analytics. This half-day is the connective tissue that ties them all together: strategy, platform choice, integrated planning, and measurement. Many attendees take this workshop first for the bigger picture, then book individual 90-minute workshops to go deeper on the specific platforms or disciplines they need.

Will we cover specific platforms in detail?

Briefly, in the context of platform choice. Which platforms suit which audiences, what each is good and bad at. We don't go deep on platform-specific tactics; that's what the 90-minute workshops are for. If you want a deep dive on LinkedIn, Facebook, or any specific platform, those are separate sessions.

Is this workshop available online?

No. Half-day workshops are in-person only. Four hours via livestream is genuinely difficult to deliver and harder to sit through. The 90-minute workshops in our catalogue are available both in person and live online.

Will we cover paid social media advertising?

Briefly. Paid is part of the integrated picture and we'll cover when it's worth considering and how it fits alongside organic. For a proper deep-dive on paid Facebook in particular, our Facebook for Business 90-minute workshop covers it in much more detail.

Can I bring a colleague?

Each booking is for one place. If you'd like to bring a colleague, book a second place. It's a per-attendee cap on group size, not a per-business one.

What kit do I need to bring?

Just yourself and a notebook is plenty. If you'd like to draft your strategy and plan on a laptop or tablet during the practical session, bring one along. It's optional.

Will this be recorded?

No, and there's a deliberate reason. Social media moves fast. Algorithm changes, platform updates and new tools appear weekly. A recording made six months ago is out of date by the time you watch it. Every CoMagnify workshop is current as of the day it runs, and we spend time covering not just what works now but what we expect to change in the coming weeks. You can't get that from a recording.

I'd prefer training tailored to my business specifically. Can you do that?

Yes, see our Bespoke Training page.
