About CoMagnify

A marketing training company for small businesses. Real workshops, working trainers, no fluff.

What CoMagnify is

CoMagnify is a marketing training company for small businesses.

We started it because the marketing training industry has a problem. Most of what's on offer has recurring issues: they're introductory courses that assume you know nothing (which most small business owners don't need by the time they're looking for help), or they're expensive enterprise programmes built for teams of marketers who don't exist in a five-person company.

And then there's the online offering which is somehow never quite relevant for your business, primarily created by US creators and usually the information is out of date.

The space in between, I know roughly what I'm doing, I've been at this for a while, I just need someone who has actually run a campaign to tell me what to do next, was barely served. So we built it.

Our workshops are 90 minutes or four hours. They run in person across Bristol, Cheltenham, Swindon and Thornbury, with most also available live online. Groups are small (ten people maximum) so we can work with everyone in the room. Topics rotate: the platform-specific deep-dives (LinkedIn, Facebook), the cross-cutting fundamentals (brand narratives, AI for marketers, analytics), and the half-day sessions that put the whole picture together.

Everything we teach is current. We don't record the sessions because marketing changes faster than recordings stay useful. Algorithms shift weekly, AI capabilities update monthly, search behaviour evolves quarterly. The workshops are taught by working marketers who are running campaigns themselves alongside the teaching, which means the material is current as of the day it runs.

We're a small operation by design. Two trainers (Nick and Laurie) and an operations lead (Michael) keep things tight, fast, and honest. There's no marketing department; there's no sales process; there's no upsell. You book a workshop, you turn up, you leave knowing more than you came with.

That's it. That's the company.

Nick Davis, founder of CoMagnify

Nick

Founder & Trainer

Nick is the founder of CoMagnify. He's been creating brand content for 25 years and counting.

His career started in 2000 on the production side of broadcast and documentary, working at the BBC, National Geographic, and Discovery. A grounding in narrative, audience, and storytelling that's stayed with everything he's done since. By the late 2000s he was running brand content for international advertising (most famously the Becks Offbeat campaign in 2008, which he spearheaded), and in the 18 years since has worked with Virgin, SharkNinja, Overboard, and a long list of other brands you'll know.

Alongside the brand work he's been a working photographer, with awards from the IPA, TIFA, and BPA among others. He's also helped guide a number of small businesses to significant growth, which is what sparked CoMagnify in the first place. He kept noticing the same gap: small business owners doing real, ambitious work but trying to learn from training material designed for someone else.

Nick teaches all eight of CoMagnify's 90-minute workshops and two of the half-day workshops. His specialty is making complicated topics (AI prompting, SEO algorithms, brand strategy) feel manageable, even slightly fun. Not by simplifying them, but by being clear about what actually matters and what's just industry noise.

He lives in the West of England, drinks more coffee than he should, and runs his own marketing using the same workshops he teaches.

Laurie

Trainer

Laurie has been making visual content for 15 years.

She started on the production side of broadcast documentary, and has been a regular camerawoman for National Geographic ever since, travelling extensively for some of the most demanding storytelling commissions in the industry. Alongside the broadcast work she's filmed for Disney and Warner Brothers, among others, on commercial and creative briefs that demanded both technical craft and a strong narrative instinct.

She's built a reputation for visual flair and an obsession with storytelling. The slightly unfashionable view that what you film matters at least as much as how you film it. Most of the visual content small businesses produce fails not because the camera is wrong, but because nobody thought hard enough about the story. That's the gap she fills in CoMagnify's workshops.

Laurie teaches the iPhone Photo and Video workshop, and shares the half-day Photography and Video for Business workshop with Nick. Her specialty is helping people who feel intimidated by visual content realise that the technical side is much smaller than they think, and that the real work is figuring out what to say.

Outside CoMagnify she still works actively as a director and camera operator, which means her teaching reflects what's actually working in 2026 rather than what worked when she started.

Michael Nisbet, operations director at CoMagnify

Michael

Operations Director

Michael runs CoMagnify's operations.

He has 20+ years of operational experience across retail and construction. The kind of career that builds the unglamorous skills small companies often don't realise they need until things start going wrong. Logistics. Scheduling. Bookings. Venue relationships. The thousand small things that have to work for a workshop to actually happen.

He's the reason workshops start on time, the room is set up properly, the materials are where they should be, and the answer to "can I bring a colleague?" gets back to you within the hour.

You probably won't meet Michael unless something needs sorting out. If you do, he'll have it sorted by the time the email reaches Nick or Laurie.
